Live Your Dreams or Live Your Fears
The Choice is Yours
As I watched my 22-month old nephew walk on the beach, fall, get up and do it again and again, I admired the fact that he never once looked around to see if anyone saw him fall. Then I began to wonder…
What would the world be like if adults lived without fear of what others think?
Thank goodness that we learn to walk as little kids years before we enter middle school. Otherwise, we’d probably all be too worried about what the other kids would think of us if we fall and so we’d continue crawling.
As little kids we don’t think about it, we simply understand and accept that making mistakes is part of the learning process. As we grow up, we become concerned with what others think of us and we become self-conscious and concerned about what other people think of us. Ironically, we often worry about what other people think of us when, in fact, they aren’t thinking about us at all.
As Les Brown said:
“Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.”
So how do you break free of living your fears?
- Rule #1: Don’t judge others. Instead see the best in them.
- Rule #2: Assume that other people are following rule #1 as it applies to their opinion of you.
So stop living your life worrying about what other people think about you. Chances are strong that they aren’t thinking about you and your mistakes anyway as they are likely too busy thinking about what other people are thinking about them and their mistakes.
Will you live your dreams or live your fears?
It’s your life, so the choice is yours.
